SPIEL has become a Mega-Event this year with more than 1,000 exhibitors from 50 nations and three additional exhibition halls. For the second year in a row our games event is growing at an above average rate due to the fact that even though we are currently in the middle of the digital age, classic board games are trending like never before.
The increase in the number of exhibitors means that SPIEL ’16 will grow in area size too: Halls 4 and 6 have been added as an exhibition space offering more room to play and browse than ever before. So the international games event will take place in Halls 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7 and the Galeria. The New Releases Showcase will also be moving to its own hall due to its ever-increasing space requirement. New releases and world premieres numbering over a thousand will be on show in Hall 1A this year for the first time.
“The international game days ‘Spiel’ is the world’s largest trade fair for toys and games and offers the unique opportunity to receive full and detailed information on the complete national and international games offer. Nowhere else the whole game scene is represented as extensively as here. At this fair experiences are shared, new products are introduced on the market and new ideas and games trends are gained. The exhibitors invite you at many tables to test and play along. Entertainers show, how the games works and explain the unknown. From chess to the classic card games to children, strategy, skill and computer games everything can be found here. Even for small children, the game days are a very special experience. A wide range of high quality toys are just waiting to be tested and recorded. A bobby car and a skate obstacle course, a bouncy castle and an exercise and family garden invite you to participate and experience. A special highlight of the game is the Comic Action – a must for any comic book fan. It gives a great overview of the domestic and foreign comic market, from comics about artwork, posters, art prints to t-shirts and action figures. Comic book collectors provides the used comic store a space to browse, to exchange and to discover. The most important highlight of the show is the award of the German Game Award for the best children’s, family and adult games but also for exemplary rules. In addition, a special award for outstanding personal or institutional services in gaming will be awarded.”
The Spiel will take place on 4 days from Thursday, 13. October to Sunday, 16. October 2016 in Essen.
